Create a project

Set up a project with its title, type, privacy, client, and collaborators.

Last reviewed 4 September 2026

Before you start

Have a project title in mind. Decide whether to link an existing client or create one. If you want to add collaborators, have their Mixhaus handles ready. You can leave Client and Members empty.

1. Open the project form

  1. Open Projects.
  2. Select Create Project.

The form includes Project Title, Type, Privacy, Client, and Members.

Set the project boundary first, then add the client and collaborators who need access.

2. Set the project details

  1. Enter a name in Project Title.
  2. Choose a Type. The options are Album, EP, Single, and Playlist. For one track, Single is usually the clearest choice. Use Album or EP when several tracks belong together.
  3. Choose Private or Public under Privacy. Private is the default. It limits access to you, your collaborators, and clients you invite through Mixhaus.

Public creates a project page that anyone with the link can open without signing in.

Under Client, choose one of these options:

  • No client leaves the project unlinked.
  • An existing client links that client to the project.
  • Create new client opens fields for Client name, Contact name, and Contact email.

Client name is required when you create a client. Contact name and Contact email are optional.

4. Add collaborators

Your account becomes the project Owner automatically. To add someone else:

  1. Enter at least two characters in Add by handle....
  2. Select the matching user from the results.
  3. Open that member's actions if you need to change Access from Viewer to Editor.

New members start as Viewer. Owners and editors can manage the project and add files. Viewers cannot manage the project or add files.

5. Create the project

Select Create project. The button shows Creating... while Mixhaus saves the project.

When the project is created, the dialog closes and the new project appears in Projects. The project starts without tracks until you add a file.

After you create the project, its overview shows the project details and the tracks you add.

Common problems

The client name is required

If you choose Create new client and leave Client name empty, Mixhaus shows Client name required. Enter a name or choose No client.

A collaborator does not appear

Search with at least two characters from the person's handle. Check the result's username and @handle before selecting it.

If the search shows No users found., create the project without that member and add them later.

Mixhaus says you reached a project limit

The project limit message includes the plan limit for your account. Follow the upgrade prompt, or return to Projects and archive a finished project before creating another one.

What happens next

Open the new project and select Add Files to Project to add the first mix. If the project already has tracks, the same action is available as Add Songs.
