Choose watched folders

Choose the folder your DAW already uses for bounces and exports. Mixhaus then watches that folder in the background and syncs supported audio files to your account Library.

Before you start

• Sign in to the Mixhaus desktop app.
• Know the exact folder your DAW writes to, including any project or client subfolder.
• Make sure you can create, read, and write files there.

Do not choose your entire Music folder, a DAW session folder, or a folder full of unrelated files. Mixhaus syncs in both directions, so files from the selected destination can also appear locally.

1. Open the folder picker

On the Desktop sync page, choose Add Location. The desktop app opens a native picker titled Add Mixhaus sync location. During first time setup, the picker may instead say Choose Bounce / Export Folder. When adding another location from the desktop settings window, it says Select Folder to Watch.

Choose the folder itself, not a file inside it. Mixhaus checks that the folder exists and can be created, read, written, and flushed to disk before it starts watching.

2. Confirm the account

Mixhaus saves files from a watched folder to the Library of the account signed in to the desktop app. Check the account before adding the location, especially on a shared computer.

Studio is an account tier, so it does not create a second Library or a separate destination in this flow. Studio accounts use the same watched-folder setup as Pro accounts.

Let an export finish

Keep the export in place until Mixhaus has captured a stable snapshot. After a short quiet period, the watcher checks the file size and modified time several times. A file that is still changing, locked by the DAW, empty, or using a temporary suffix waits and retries.

Do not rename or move the file immediately after bounce. Wait for the file to finish writing, then let the location reach Up to date before reorganizing it. Supported audio extensions include .mp3, .wav, .aac, .m4a, .ogg, and .flac. Temporary files such as .tmp, .crdownload, .bip, .part, and .downloading are ignored.

4. Keep locations separate

Each watched folder belongs to one signed-in account. Locations cannot overlap or sit inside one another. If a folder is already bound to another account, choose a different local folder instead of rebinding it.

Mixhaus adds a hidden identity marker to each location so an unplugged drive cannot look like a mass delete. Leave that marker in place. If you remove a location, let pending work finish first. Removing it stops watching and leaves the original files on this computer. If you confirm discarding failed cached work, those changes will not sync later.

5. Wait for the first sync

The first scan uploads supported local files and downloads matching remote files from your account Library. The location may show Syncing with pending counts before it reaches Up to date. In the hosted page, use Sync on one location or Sync All for every location. In the native settings window, use Sync now.

If a new export could be a renamed version, Mixhaus asks a version match question or adds a suggestion to Inbox. Your answer decides whether it joins an existing history or stays a new track. See Resolve a version match.

Common problems

• The folder cannot be selected: choose a folder Mixhaus can create, read, and write. Check system permissions and that the drive is mounted.
• The location shows Action required: reconnect the original folder and restore access. Do not select a replacement folder for the existing location.
• The app says sync locations cannot be nested or overlap: move the export folder outside another watched folder, or remove the duplicate location after its pending work finishes.
• An export is missing: check its extension, confirm the DAW has finished writing, and look in Failed items. Then choose Retry All, Retry failed, Sync All, or Sync now.
• The drive was disconnected: reconnect the same folder. Mixhaus pauses safely and catches up; it does not treat an unavailable folder as a request to delete everything in the cloud.
