Resolve a version match

When a new export looks like a renamed version of an existing track, Mixhaus gives you a history decision. Attach it to the existing track to keep its versions together, or keep it as a separate track.

Before you start

Let the export finish writing. A desktop prompt can appear before upload, or Inbox can show a suggestion after the server finishes checking the uploaded export.

1. Read the suggestion

The desktop notification is titled Version Match and asks, Is [export name] a new version of [track name]? Choose Yes or No.

If the prompt is handled in Inbox, the card shows a match percentage, the original filename, and text such as May be a new version of [track name]. The card can also show why Mixhaus made the suggestion.

2. Check the reasons

Mixhaus compares the cleaned filename with active tracks and considers the export folder, project, and recency. It does not listen to the audio. Common reasons include:

• Filename matches after removing version suffixes
• Filename is very similar after cleanup
• Filename tokens strongly overlap
• Same export folder
• Already used in the same project
• Track was updated recently

Suggestions stay within the signed-in account. Mixhaus does not match an export to a track owned by another account.

3. Attach to the right track

In the desktop prompt, choose Yes. In Inbox, review the Attach to field, choose Change if the suggested track is wrong, optionally add a Version note, and choose Attach version.

Mixhaus moves the uploaded version into the selected track timeline without uploading the audio again. Future updates from that watched path follow the selected track. The export's original filename stays available as provenance.

4. Keep it separate

Choose No in the desktop prompt or Dismiss in Inbox when the export is a separate track. Mixhaus keeps it as its own track and does not repeat the same dismissed suggestion.

If you attached it to the wrong track, find the accepted item in Inbox and choose Undo. The export becomes a separate track again. You can then resolve a new suggestion if Mixhaus finds one.

If the prompt expires

The local desktop prompt waits 15 seconds. If you do not answer, Mixhaus keeps the export as a new track. A later server check can still create an Inbox suggestion. No audio is lost while the decision is pending.

Common problems

• The suggestion disappeared: the source or candidate may have been deleted, moved to Trash, or changed before the check completed. Restore the needed file, then upload a new export if necessary.
• The wrong track is suggested: use Change in Inbox and select the correct target before choosing Attach version.
• Attach version is unavailable: the source must be an unmatched track with one uploaded version, and both files must belong to the same account.
• The file changed while you were deciding: the desktop prompt checks its checksum before attaching. If it no longer matches the suggested snapshot, Mixhaus waits for the updated export and checks again.
• The prompt says No but I changed my mind: a dismissed suggestion is not repeated automatically. If the export should share history, use a fresh export or contact Mixhaus support.
