Add searchable audio metadata
Set a track name, BPM, key, and tags so Library search returns the right files.
Before you start
Use an MP3, WAV, AAC, M4A, OGG, or FLAC file. To add details while uploading a new file, select exactly one file with the file picker. Dragging files into Library or selecting more than one file starts a batch upload and skips the details form.
1. Open the upload details form
- Open the folder where you want the file.
- Select Upload, then Upload file.
- Select one supported audio file.
The Add track details form opens while Mixhaus prepares the upload. You may see Preparing upload... or Uploading while you add details... above the fields.
2. Fill in the searchable fields
Enter the values you want to use in Library search.
- Name starts with the base filename without its extension. Leave it unchanged to keep the original filename. If you enter a different name without an extension, Mixhaus adds the extension from the selected file.
- Tempo (BPM) accepts a whole-number value from 1 to 400. Mixhaus rounds decimal values. If you leave it blank, Mixhaus can use an explicit BPM or tempo in the filename.
- Key can use values such as C, F#, Am, or F#m. If you type F# minor, Mixhaus stores F#m. Mixhaus may infer an explicit key from the filename when the field is blank.
- Tags accepts up to 20 tags. Type a tag and press Enter or select Add. Mixhaus trims and lowercases each tag, removes duplicates, and keeps up to 32 characters per tag.
Leave a field blank when you do not know the value. An incorrect BPM, key, or tag makes later searches harder to trust.
3. Confirm the upload
- Check the name and values.
- Select Upload.
The form closes and the upload continues in the background. Wait for Upload complete and Your file is ready to use. The new file appears in its Library folder with the values you entered.
Select Cancel before confirming if you need to stop the prepared upload. If preparation has failed, select the file again after fixing the problem shown in the form.
4. Add a new version with details
For an existing file, open its action menu and select Upload New Version. This action is available to the file owner and editors.
Select one audio file and fill in Name, Tempo (BPM), and Key. The version form does not show Tags. Mixhaus keeps the existing track tags when you add a new version. Select Upload, then wait for Version uploaded.
Edit details later
- Open the file action menu and select Version History.
- In Track details, select Show.
- Edit BPM, Key, or the tags, then select Save Track Details.
To change the tempo or key on an older version without making it current, open that version's action menu and select Edit tempo & key, then select Save.
What is searchable
Library search uses the Mixhaus name, filename, current BPM, current key, and Mixhaus tags. It does not search every embedded field in the audio file.
Mixhaus still captures a bounded snapshot of embedded technical fields and tags for supported uploads, and it keeps the original audio bytes unchanged. Use Inspect audio metadata to read that snapshot.
Expected result
The file has a clear Library name and the current version has the BPM and key you entered. Its Mixhaus tags appear in Library and can be used in the Tags filter.
What happens next
Open Search audio in your Library and filter by the values you added. If you need to hear the file, use Play audio in your Library.
Common problems
The details form did not open
Drag and drop and multi-file selection use batch upload. Select Upload then Upload file, and choose one file at a time to edit its details before upload.
The Upload button is disabled
Wait for preparation to finish. If the form shows an error, cancel it and select the file again. Only MP3, WAV, AAC, M4A, OGG, and FLAC files are accepted.
A new version has no Tags field
That is expected. Version uploads keep the track's existing Mixhaus tags. Edit the tags later in Version History under Track details.
The BPM or key is missing from search
Search uses the current version's values. Check Version History and make sure the version with the metadata is active, or edit the current details and select Save Track Details.
The upload reached the storage limit
Mixhaus stops the upload and shows the storage limit action. Resolve the storage issue, then select the file again.
